Legal Storm Erupts Over Alleged Humiliation of Leader at Constitution Club; ₹2,500 Crore Notice Demands Apology, Administrator

A political storm has erupted following allegations of mistreatment of prominent political figure Anshuman Joshi at the Constitution Club of India. On June 1, 2025, advocate Deepak Raj Singh, representing Joshi, issued a stern legal notice to the Governing Council of the Club, demanding compensation of ₹2,500 crore and the installation of an independent administrator to oversee the Club’s affairs.

According to the notice, on May 29, 2025, Mr. Joshi arrived at the Club to attend a formal meeting alongside Members of Parliament, senior political leaders, and business delegates. The gathering had been organized by a sitting Member of Parliament under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vision for Development” initiative, and was intended for discussions on national development issues. However, upon entering the premises, Mr. Joshi and his associates were allegedly subjected to insulting and threatening behavior by Club staff.

Staff Displayed Arrogance, Misbehaved in Front of Leaders

The notice alleges that during the meeting, Club staff—specifically manager Sanjay Singh, attendant Arvind Kumar, and security guard Anil Kumar (appointed through Seminal Securities)—treated Mr. Joshi and his colleagues with blatant disrespect. These employees are accused of not only ignoring basic courtesies but also using threatening and aggressive language in full view of other attendees, thereby severely tarnishing Mr. Joshi’s reputation.

Ignoring Appeals from Parliamentarians to Maintain Decorum

Despite repeated appeals from several MPs and distinguished guests present at the venue urging the staff to behave civilly, the misbehavior continued unabated. The legal notice characterizes this conduct as a violation of democratic norms and institutional dignity, describing it as a “systematic failure” on the part of the Club.

Serious Psychological Harm and Public Humiliation

The notice states that this incident caused significant damage to Mr. Joshi’s public image, honour, and mental well-being. It holds both the Constitution Club and its employees accountable for “severe defamation, mental harassment, and harm to professional standing.”

Questioning the Club’s Administrative Practices

The legal communication also casts a critical eye on the administrative framework of the Constitution Club. It argues that this episode is not merely an isolated case of individual misconduct but rather indicative of systemic flaws, misuse of authority, and lack of accountability within the Club’s operations. Accordingly, advocate Singh demanded the appointment of an independent administrator to ensure transparency and responsibility in the Club’s governance.

Seven-Day Ultimatum for Apology and Compensation

The notice grants the Club administration a seven-day window to issue a public apology to Mr. Joshi and to pay the ₹2,500 crore compensation. Failing compliance within this timeframe, the notice warns of legal action—both civil and criminal—against the Club and the staff involved, under the BNSS 2023 Act, tort law, and other applicable legal provisions.

No Official Response from the Club So Far

As of now, the Constitution Club has not issued any official statement regarding the matter. This controversy has rapidly become a focal point in political and legal circles, raising broader questions about accountability in prestigious institutions. Observers are wondering whether such treatment of a VIP is becoming commonplace and what it means for institutional responsibility and democratic values. In the days ahead, this dispute is expected to gain further momentum.
